Preserve Food Longer With Bluezone

WDC Preserve Food Longer Bluezone Header

Food waste is a recurring problem in the foodservice industry. Even by using quality packaging and storage, food waste still tends to be a huge problem. The Bluezone food preservation system, however, is the proven answer to eliminating this issue.

Intro To Bluezone

What is Bluezone Food Preservation?

The Bluezone Food Preservation System is commercially used to extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables and fruits. It is used in walk-in refrigerators, cold storage rooms, transport containers, general food storage areas, and reach-in refrigerators. It is also used in global food storage food chains, transport, distribution, and retail sales.

How Does It Work?

Regardless of the model of the Bluezone, it works by killing mold, bacteria, and decay-producing agents through the use of a UV food preservation system. It attacks airborne contaminants to gain a maximal kill rate. During the oxidation process, ethylene converts to CO2 and H2O. Inside the reaction chamber, ultraviolet irradiation and oxidation completely occur that address the specific chemical and microbial contaminants in the refrigerated storage. Also, being CARB certified for ozone emissions, the Bluezone reaction chamber keeps ozone inside it.

In the Bluezone Model 2400, the UV-enhanced oxidation destroys contaminants, like mold, ethylene, odors, and bacteria. The UV-enhanced oxidation draws air into a self-contained reaction chamber and kills contaminants. Also, to reduce waste and extend shelf life, Bluezone eliminates ethylene gas and 99.9% of bacteria and mold in walk-in refrigerators.

The Bluezone Model 300 treats up to 4,000 FT3 of refrigerated spaces for food preservation. This model is a hybrid model that can kill viruses in small areas. Also, it eliminates flavour transfer and extends the shelf life of the produce by keeping the environment of refrigeration from contaminants.

Eliminate Food Waste

Bluezone significantly helps with eliminating food waste. In Canada, the annual waste or loss of food production is approximately 58%. Other important statistics about food waste in Canada are as follows: 35.5 million tonnes of food waste or loss happen every year. However, the Bluezone food preservation system could've saved 11.2 million tonnes of it.

Keep Food Fresher, Longer

A recent case study involved the storing of strawberries for 10 days under the control of Bluezone. And as a result, the strawberries exhibited less undesirable odour, less ripening, and less mold than strawberries that didn't have Bluezone and were stored identically the same way.

The tests included two pallets of strawberries from California. The pallets include a pound of plastic, vented, clamshells, eight clamshells per cardboard flat, a 40" X 48" wood pallet base, and six flats per layer. The total was 18 layers of strawberries on each pallet.

These two pallets were already a minimum of 10 days old before starting this test. The first five days involved transporting the strawberries from California to Chelsea MA within Tectrol Pallet Cover. The next five days included being stored at Chelsea MA's distribution center.

The testers labeled the two pallets along with all the flats within each of these flats as Pallet A and Pallet B. After 10 days of testing, Pallet B clearly had a lot more decay and mold than Pallet A. And as previously mentioned, the strawberries on Pallet A were still fresh due to the use of a Bluezone food preservation system.
